I am in my mid-70s and first attended Pilates classes at the Glebe Barn Studios & Clinic in Tacolneston some years ago, as I had pain and mobility issues affecting my hips, legs and lower back. Preliminary assessment there, at one point involving scans requested via my GP, highlighted other issues, for example relating to posture. With encouragement from my doctor, I have since gone to the Pilates studio every week during their term periods, for an hourly Pilates class specifically run for people with my kind of problems. The instructor is well qualified, and manages with considerable patience and understanding to give individuals in her class a degree of personal attention. Her exercise programmes are perfectly designed for the condition and ability level of her clients, and I have benefitted greatly from my regular attendance at her classes. Moreover, dealing with everyone else at the studio – therapists, classmates, and the very helpful Office Manager – is always a pleasure. The whole team is friendly, efficient, and professional.

Following a serious lower back injury 2 years ago, with 3 months in a brace and having been given some stretching exercises to do, the cause of my continued pain issues had never been identified. Within minutes of meeting Kim and following an assessment and treatment, she was able to tell me exactly what was the cause, as well as what could be done to resolve the issues. We embarked upon a structured program of Pilates under expert supervision. I have now been attending weekly classes for over a year and have an almost full range of movement, no pain and most importantly a greater awareness of my symptoms.

I cannot thank her enough for how much she has and is still helping me when it seemed like I was running out of options. The skill and attention to detail of the Proprius massage Therapist and the Shape-Up Pilates practitioners was second to none. A year ago I couldn’t ride my bicycle without a lot of pain. Thanks to a combination of the Massage Therapy and regular Pilates classes, I’ve been back on the bike pain free for 6 months – oh, and I just cycled 500 miles over 6 days with no ill effects!

The Proprius remedial massage therapy sessions have made a major contribution to my improved mobility. They analysed my postural and muscle imbalances and were then able to treat them effectively. This combined with their carefully targeted prescriptive exercises helped to relieve the problems. I now attend their regular Shape-Up classes and this has help me develop not only strength but an understanding of my mechanical weaknesses, so I am able to help myself stay stronger.

I would recommend Shape-Up Pilates wholeheartedly.  I’ve been participating in classes for 3 years and the instructors know the clients well.  This makes it easy for the instructors to take account of any issues we have, for example arthritis. We are shown how to adapt our pilates moves if we have an issue or injury.   The classes are small which means there is time for individual attention where appropriate.  The pilates studio is a welcoming space, it’s kept spotlessly clean and the whole team are positive and helpful.”

I have found Proprius massage therapy specifically beneficial, especially as exercises are recommended to do at home and designed for my individual needs. Personally I try to lead an active life, being a regular, serious, club golfer and I am convinced that without the daily exercises recommended, I would not be able to enjoy what I do.

Beginners

If you are a  newcomer to Pilates, you will need to complete our 4 week Basic Principles Programme. This consists of small groups of novices allowing for individual attention to be given.

Specialist

As Soft Tissue Therapists and Pilates Practitioners, we are qualified to treat mechanical pain, including lower back and we also work with various medical conditions.

Mobility

Some of our clients are unable to access any of our mainstream classes due to various medical conditions and/or joint issues.  As specialists in this area we endeavour to be inclusive to all.
